Misty Copeland and Open World Dance Foundation Unveil Magical Cinderella Ballet Performance in Waterbury, CT, The United States

Misty Copeland, a world-renowned ballerina, author, and philanthropist, along with the Open World Dance Foundation, is excited to announce the upcoming presentation of the beloved Cinderella ballet. This incredible performance will take place on  March 15, 2024, at the Palace Theater in Waterbury, Connecticut.

The production features the acclaimed American Ballet Theatre principal dancers Isabella Boylston and James Whiteside, who bring remarkable talent and charm to the stage.  However, this ballet is more than just a show; It’s an opportunity to bring the fascinating world of ballet closer to the community. The Open World Dance Foundation is dedicated to encouraging young talent by introducing them to the backstage world of costume design, lighting, sets, and backdrops. 

One notable aspect of this production is the personal involvement of Misty Copeland. She will engage with both the cast members and the audience, sharing her own experiences and insights. Having performed in the Cinderella ballet in 2016, she holds a deep connection to the performance and is excited to share her experiences with the upcoming production. Misty Copeland also plans to participate in an interactive session during where she will share behind-the-scenes stories, answer questions, and enhance the connection between artists and audience members.

Moreover, the creative elements of the production hold special significance. Prior to the 2016 premiere, the Open World Dance Foundation held a contest in local orphanages for the best illustration of the Cinderella fairytale by Charles Perrault.

The winning drawing of Cinderella’s house dress by Eleven-year-old Anna Osipenkova inspired Misty Copeland’s costume, which she has worn on stage, and another young, talented Vasilisa Marova’s illustration of the castle, ballroom, and home living room became the captivating backdrops for the performance.

  1. How brilliant that those two young girls designed costumes for the ballet! As a child I listened to the music my father played which included ballet which I loved. I got lost in the music picturing myself dancing, so this takes me back to that time. It’s been a long time since I went to a ballet performance. My favourite is maybe Romeo and Juliet which I saw performed in NYC by the Bolshoi Ballet, a very long time ago. Today I happened to turn on the car radio and caught a part of the opera La Boheme…ah! it must be my day for nostalgia!

    1. Kids’ ideas coming to life is a pretty fascinating concept. I believe that all dreams might come true with this production. The audition is open to all professional dancers and to anyone who has ever liked to dance, regardless of age. This is incredibly unique and inspiring.
      You saw the Bolshoi Theater’s Romeo and Juliet ballet?! Amazing! This is one of the greatest ballet theater with amazing traditions and dancers.
      I like it too. My one of the favorite ballet is the Mariynskiy Theater’s version of Swan Lake.
      Good art is always remarkable and unforgettable.
      Actually, as I was writing the post to support my friend, I felt some nostalgia as well. Recollections of an amazing moments. 🙂💗
