Exploring the World’s Most Expensive Chocolates

While chocolate may be just an enjoyable treat for some people, for the world’s finest chocolatiers, it’s considered an exclusive and priceless piece of art.

The oldest chocolate manufacturer, Debauve & Gallais, is well-known for its sweets. The most expensive item is generally referred to as the “Le Grand Louis XVI collection.” The box of 36 dark chocolates costs about $900.

“Le Livre” by Debauve & Gallais, featuring 35 individually created ganache and pralines. It came in a leather book-shaped box with gold trim and cost €239.

“Le Livre” is however a best-seller even at this high cost.

A single 50-gram bar of chocolate from To’ak producer costs more than $400 US.

The cost is extremely high because the companies used 85% grade cacao as ordinary chocolate contains only 5% of the fiber.

“La Madeline au Truffe” by the House of Knipschildt – $250 US

The French truffles weigh 42 gr and are made with 70% dark chocolate, heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla.

The box of chocolate includes jewels in the center.

DeLafée’s “Gold Swiss chocolate box” cost $390

It includes 8 luxurious Swiss pralines with 24-karat edible gold decorations.

A collectible Swiss gold coin with a date range between 1910 and 1920 can also be found in the luxury box.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, it also has the title of being the most expensive dessert in the world.

The dessert is lavishly decorated with 5g of edible 23-karat gold, and you get the opportunity to keep the 18-karat gold bracelet with 1 carat of white diamonds served with the dessert.

The unique packaging was created by Lebanese chocolatier Patchi.

A genuine leather box with handwoven fabric ornamentation had 49 premium chocolates that had been individually hand-wrapped in Indian silk, embellished with glittering Swarovski crystals.

The largest community for real food experiences EatWith link tourists and residents with hosts in more than 130 countries, offering unique experiences.

Even with its astronomical price, “Le Chocolat Box” was mostly a marketing stunt. Simon Jewelers used the media advertisement of confectionery just to draw attention to another promotion.

  1. OMG. I knew the “gap” had got wider but clearly I am out of touch. It puts in mind the Roman Empire and its debauchery. I can’t quite wrap my head around it! But a most interesting piece Angela!

  2. Oh this is crazy. I have always had a sweet tooth, so when I lived in Belgium many years ago I was a very happy boy. These chocolates are truly next level, all incredibly presented but the price tags are just… madness. Thanks for this fun article.
