Cozy Italian restaurants in Florence.

Traveling and tasting traditional dishes is one of the best ways to get to know the local culture. Italy is not an exception and we recognize Italians for their exclusive food.

Italian cuisine is rich in delicious variety and rooted in centuries-old historical culture. Of course, traditional dishes differ from region to region and Tuscany is one of the amazing region where you can enjoy the local food.

Tuscany is a gastronomic paradise. It is believed that many classic recipes date back to the historical Medici era.

The most popular Tuscan dishes are crostini, lardo di colonnata (cured meat), ribollita soup, chiococca (fish stew or soup), panzanella (bread salad), and Florentine steak.

T-bone steak, known as bistecca alla Fiorentina, is a very famous dish in Florence. These prime steaks are famed for their deep flavor and tenderness and are always served rare.

Florence is definitely a city for meat lovers.

Tips for travellers:
  • Italian people drink cappuccino only in the morning up to 11:00 a.m.
  • Sometimes, they drink espresso after lunch or dinner.
  • Lunch starts at 1:00 pm and Dinner at 8:00 pm.
  • Happy hour or Aperitivo is between 6 pm and 9 pm—when people can relax after work with a glass of wine or Campari and have some snacks. And after they enjoy dinner.
  • You definitely should try good wine and Spritz at a happy hour.

Where to eat in Florence:
Trattoria Sostanza

Via del Porcellana, 25/R

Try Florentine steak and butter chicken for a delicious meal. Make sure you save room for the house dessert: meringue cake layered with strawberries and cream.

Aqua Al 2

Via della Vigna Vecchia 40R

It is a great place for late dinner since they stay open until 1 am. They have selected wines, pleasant music, and a lovely atmosphere.

The restaurant offers a variety of food platters (assaggio) so you can taste different dishes on the same plate.

Trattoria Mario

Via Rosina, 2r

Trattoria Mario has been a family-run restaurant since 1953, located near the Mercato Centrale.

The Trattoria offers variety of delicious food prepared in Florentine traditions, including perhaps one of the best Bistecca alla Fiorentina.

The restaurant has a very good rating and plenty of satisfied customers.

The Trattoria Mario serves Florentine steak rare only!

The open hours are limited: Every day 12:00-15:00. Close on Sunday. Also it opens for dinner only twice a week on Thursday and Friday 19:30-23:00.

I believe this restaurant would be a fantastic choice for lunch.

Icy Dot Wine

Via Panzani 55/R

An excellent place to stop for a drink.

The cafe also features a unique and cozy design.

There you can order wine, coffee, dessert, and ice cream.

I chose handmade Shakerato coffee. I have never liked iced coffee, but it was one of the bests I have ever tried.

Tuscany Wine.

Tuscany is home to some of the finest wines in the world.

Classic red wines like Chianti and Riserva di Famiglia, Carmignano, Vernaccia of San Gimignano, and Vino Nobile di Montepulcia are perfect for pairing with stakes, pastas and salami (antipasto).

The Brunello di Montalcino is another excellent red wine that pairs well with boar dishes and delicious cheeses.

The best white wines are Vernaccia di San Gimignano, Trebbiano Toscano, Vermentino and Pomino.

Aperitivo
Spritz.

On hot Italian days you definitely should drink Spritz.

This is a refreshing drink and one of the most popular apéritif cocktails in Italy.

A spritz is a wine-based cocktail made with a good mix of Prosecco, Aperol or Campari, and soda water. It has a little bitter flavor with an orange hint. This is a simple drink, but very delicious.

Gelato

Please don’t leave the Florence without trying Gelato, because the Florence claims to be a birthplace of famous Italian ice cream and it still very delicious and refreshing.

Here the couple of place:

Gelateria dei Neri

Via dei Neri, 9/11R

Il Procopio

Via Pietrapiana, 60R

I hope you will appreciate not only the beauty of Florence, but also their delightful food.

  1. We love Italian cuisine. In 2019, we were in Pisa and Cinque Terre and renewed our acquaintance with the food and drink. We found it interesting that the Italian breakfast was typically sweet pastry and cappuccino. The afternoon spritz is definitely a guilty pleasure. Hope all is well Angela. Allan

  2. Lots of great information. It seems to me that Europeans have a much healthier relationship with food. Everything is fresh and well presented and so appealing! Makes me want to jump on a flight. Oh and Spritz…yes, one of my favourites.
